Two carpenters, one reverberating microphone.
Wille and Wiktor Andersson grew up building things with their father in Bollnäs, Sweden. They built their own EMT 140-style plate reverb before deciding they could build something better.

Carpentry and sound, the same skill
Wille and Wiktor Andersson are brothers from Bollnäs, in the Hälsingland region of Sweden. They grew up working timber with their father and playing music, and never treated carpentry and sound as separate crafts.
Before AfterSound existed, the brothers built their own EMT 140-style plate reverb for their own studio. Using it convinced them a mechanical plate could do something no plugin could: respond, in real time, to whatever they played.
A mechanical instrument
The lever that sets the decay
The Reverbophone’s decay is set by a physical lever, not a digital control. Moving it slides a damping plate against the tensioned steel, shortening or lengthening the decay from around 0.1 seconds to roughly 4 to 5 seconds.
It is the same principle the brothers built into their own plate reverb first, refined into a production instrument. AfterSound publicly launched the Reverbophone in January 2024.
Hand-built in batches
Furniture-grade carpentry
Every unit is still hand-built in Bollnäs: a tensioned steel plate suspended in a solid oak cabinet, with the brothers’ own carpentry visible in the frame joints, the grille weave, and the sign on the front of every unit.
Two microphones mount directly on the plate to capture its decay. There is no DSP in the signal path. “1 mic. 1000 sounds.”
The Australia chapter
Landed and supported in Sydney
In Australia, the Reverbophone is supplied and supported by AKA Acoustics, the team behind some of Australia’s premier recording studios and production facilities. The same engineers who design and tune those rooms import each unit, insure it in transit, and stand behind it locally.
